Movies

Iii Identical Strangers

Recommended past Al Sacco, managing editor

3 Identical Strangers is the all-time documentary I've seen this year. It's the truthful story of triplets separated at birth when their mother put them upwardly for adoption, all who end up living in New York and who randomly end up coming together each other and immediate recognizing that they're related. When they do, their lives are flipped upside down, and they accept the U.S. by tempest, touring and telling their story and appearing on hit Television receiver shows.

Everything seems to be going well, and they're happy to find that they have new siblings. But as they dig into the reasons why they were separated instead of beingness adopted together, an ugly mystery unfolds along with some nefarious motivations behind it all.

Information technology's not a feel-adept flick by any means, but it'due south a perfect case of real-life proving to be stranger than fiction.

Teen Titans Become! to the Movies

Recommended by Daniel Rubino, executive editor

Staying true to the Goggle box serial the Teen Titans got their ain 90-minute picture in the summer of 2022. Guest voices include Nicolas Cage acting as Superman (an inside joke if you lot know about Tim Burton'southward vision of "Superman Lives"), Kristen Bell, Volition Arnett, and even Jimmy Kimmel.

The whole movie is a meta-critique of the oversaturation of comic book hero movies and how Robin desperately wants in on that action.

I saw TTGTTM in the theater and enjoyed every minute of it. Plus, if you can splurge for it, y'all can grab this championship in 4K UHD, and it counts as a Movies Anywhere championship, which is always a win.

Iron Man

Recommended past Richard Devine, reviews editor

My quest to catch up on the entire MCU in its chronological order this week brings me to Iron Human being, our first feel of Tony Stark and the origin story of the infamous cerise, metallic superhero. It's easy to criticise Robert Downey Jr as an actor, just I experience similar he captures Tony Stark perfectly, and I'm quite happy to say Iron Man didn't disappoint as I feared it might. Onwards to the side by side chapter!

The Haunting of Hill House

Recommended by Cale Hunt, staff writer

It's the right calendar month to go spooky, and this weekend I'g looking forward to checking out The Haunting of Hill Firm, expected to be released October 12, 2022. It'southward a movie accommodation of a book with the same name, and it seems similar it should exist a solid retelling of the ol' haunted business firm story.

This fourth dimension it goes back and forth between present and past to reveal what happened to a family living under the roof. I'm not huge on jump scares and would much rather have a creeping terror, just I approximate we'll have to expect and see which way it goes.

Teen Titans Go! seasons i through four

Recommended by Daniel Rubino, executive editor

I'm non a comic fan and specially not of DC (sorry, Batman), but Teen Titans Go! is 1 of the funniest cartoons around. While many fans of the original, "very serious" series loathe the whole Get! humor, I observe it hilarious. And yes, I watch it every weekend just similar I was a kid mostly considering like all classic cartoons whether its Looney Toons, Tiny Toons, or Ren and Stimpy the writing hither works on levels for kids and adults.

Luckily, if y'all do have kids or but similar dizzy things seasons one through iv are currently on sale for the side by side few days. Flavour four is 43 percent off dropping to $xx from $35 making information technology a great fourth dimension to purchase (plus it has the wonderful four-role "The Day the Night Stopped Beginning to Shine and Became Dark Fifty-fifty Though information technology Was the Twenty-four hour period" special).

Music

From the Fires — Greta Van Fleet

Recommended by Dan Thorp-Lancaster, news writer

So, I'm a bit embarrassed past this, but Greta Van Armada completely passed me by for too long. I had heard of the band, but never thought to give them a mind until a recent road trip. And wow, I didn't know what I was missing.

The first song I head was "Highway Tune", which was perfect for zooming down the interstate with the windows cracked. The driving guitar riff the bursts into your ears like a sledgehammer at the starting time of the song is catchy as hell. And frontman Josh Kiszka's vocals have such a Robert Plant quality to them that you lot could hands run across this as a modern-solar day Led Zeppelin tune.

In other words: I'one thousand hooked.

The Essential Gary Stewart -- Gary Stewart

Recommended by Cale Hunt, staff writer

The late Gary Stewart make his mark in the '70s thanks to smart songwriting and a vibrato voice, which are both pretty much crucial to making information technology big in the old outlaw state scene. This collection of most of his best stuff shows off why he maybe didn't quite brand information technology big, sounding too country for diehard stone and roll fans and besides stone and roll for diehard land fans.

I like pretty much everything, and then Stewart's music is a bang-up bridge between the ii genres. Single Again, Back Sliders Wine, and She's Actin' Unmarried (I'thousand Drinking Doubles) are personal favorites thanks to a good mix of organization and lyrics.

Books

Bearskin: A Novel — James A. McLaughlin

Recommended by Al Sacco, managing editor

I loved this book. Bearskin is the story of a college kid in Arizona who heedlessly gets mixed upwards with a Mexican drug cartel and who and then escapes to rural Virginia, in an attempt to avoid a very unpleasant demise. He takes a chore as a caretaker of a wilderness preserve in the middle of nowhere, a sort of unofficial witness protection programme, and everything seems good until he notices that poachers are coming onto the property and killing bears. Equally he investigates, he finds himself in some other mess that threatens to expose his truthful identity to cartel enforcers.

The story is solid, composed of a nice mix of literary description of the Virginia wild and some authentic-feeling action. The bandage of characters is equal parts likable and terrible. And the writing is dandy. Considering this is McLaughlin's first novel, I'll definitely be keeping an center on him. Bearskin is a must-read.
